Company History - In 1967, Carl Paul and his wife Barbara founded Golfsmith in their Edison, N.J. home. Inspired by a custom club maker who had built him a tailor-made set, Carl recognized an unfilled niche in the industry: the design and distribution of custom clubs and their components, along with instruction about how best to assemble them. Beginning with a typewritten, hand illustrated catalog first became successful by helping transform club repair shops across the country into custom club makers. In the early 1970s, Carl's brother Frank joined the family business, and it moved to Austin, Texas The first storefront was a components showroom housed in 6,000 square feet of unused army barracks. In 1975, the Pauls embarked on their first consumer retail expansion by creating The Store accessory catalog. In 1976, the company first grossed more than $1 million.Operated primarily as a catalog-based business until 1992. That year the company moved to its present headquarters location, a 40-acre campus that includes the corporate offices, a practice range, a 30,000-square-foot store, and 240,000 square feet of shipping and distribution facilities. Aggressive retail expansion began in 1995 with the opening of retail stores in Houston, Denver and Dallas. Golfsmith's initial public offering of stock was in June 2006. As of August 2010, there are 76 stores in 21 states.
Company Policies -
All orders may be returned at any Store or to our Headquarters in Austin, Texas. All return shipping charges must be prepaid (C.O.D.’s will not be accepted). All claims for shortages must be made within 10 days of product receipt. All Store returns are subject to verification by a valid and current driver’s license, state identification or other approved form of identification from a governmental entity. Exceptions and Exclusions. We reserve the right to limit or refuse the return of certain merchandise, such as special or custom orders, custom clubs, assembled or altered components, personalized items and media (e.g. books, video, software, etc.). Free goods, received as part of a promotional offers or a sale are not eligible for exchange or return. Used merchandise may also be refused. For returns of Used Clubs please refer to our 90/10 Pre-Owned Guarantee. Warranty Claims/Defective Returns. Warranty claims are subject to the discretion of the original product manufacturer. Warranty information is included with many manufacturer’s products, or may be found on their respective website. Any Defective product may be returned anytime while under the manufacturer’s warranty period. Please contact us prior to returning any merchandise for warranty or defective consideration. Clubheads have a 2-year manufacturer's warranty against defects. Clubmaker branded tools come with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty (1-year for electronics). Shortages. Many orders ship in multiple cartons and may arrive days apart, so check your packing slip before calling us to report a shortage. All claims for shortages must be made with the carrier within 10 days of the invoice date. How to Return Merchandise. Products may be returned to any superstore. To return an item to our warehouse we encourage you to re-use your original shipping carton. Please follow the instructions on the back of your packing slip, note the reason for your return, and enclose the slip in the shipping carton. If you do not have your packing slip, please include a separate piece of paper containing your printed name and address, the order number and your Customer Number, and the reason for the return or exchange.
